The story behind the song
Two independent paths, fused into one song.
Unwind came out of two separate, independent paths in my life.
One path was musical. It was a path that started at my piano and ended up with a song, one that I enjoyed and recognized as a real step up in my songwriting capability. For all its worth and value, it's the other path that I personally find more interesting. That path is an experiential path, one that had nothing to do with music but with my life, my goals, my visions, my dreams, my goals and aspirations. Lofty goals, worthwhile ones. The difficulty that came to the fore when I failed to meet those goals was a challenge to my conception of who I am and who I could be. The irony is that the real growth came out of dealing with that failure.
And the irony of ironies is that once I dealt with that as a failure, I all of the sudden found myself capable of reaching those previously unreachable goals and visions.
So this song Unwind is a fusion of those two paths. I'm not quite sure why they ended up fused together. It was not planned that way, or at least it wasn't planned that way by me, but I am more than thankful that they met and fused together.
