The story behind the song

It started with a headline.

There are certain days you don't want to remember. Mine started with a headline.

I knew the name.
And I knew the place.

Ephraim Jackman.

I did not want to believe it was true.
But it was true.
He had been killed — fighting in Gaza against Hamas.

Later on it would come out what a hero he was that day.
And what a tzadik (righteous person) he was all his other days.

Loving.
Caring.
Giving.
Thoughtful.
Studious.
Musical.
And more.

In short, a remarkable young man in a life that was cut off way too short.

This song is not a tribute to Ephraim.
Rather, it is a call to learn from Ephraim.
To see and appreciate all of his remarkable qualities — and in some small way be inspired by and try to emulate them.

May we be worthy.
And may his memory be a blessing.

Moshe
